Fiscal Note Summary

Effect this measure will have on costs and revenues of state government.

Each offender incarcerated for a felony under the proposed legislation would result in an additional cost to the WV Division of Corrections of $26,081 per year (average annual cost per offender in FY 2017). However, the West Virginia Division of Corrections is unable to estimate how many new offenders would be sentenced to our custody as a result of the proposed legislation.
